Oral Hygiene for Babies

Posted .

If you have a baby, you probably want the best for them, right? This means you likely stress over their eating, sleeping and development steps regularly. Well, you should also work on helping them have a top-notch smile and oral health. This means you need to have a proper and effective oral hygiene routine. Our dentist, Dr. Sophie Baird, would be happy to help you properly care for your infant’s smile today; she encourages you to do the following things:

-Clean their gums after each feeding (If they don’t have teeth yet): You can do so by taking a clean, wet washcloth and then wiping their gums with it. This can wash away the bacteria in the mouth that promote dental issues.

-Brush their teeth twice a day: Use a child-sized, soft-bristled toothbrush and children’s toothpaste to clean your child’s teeth every morning and night. Make sure you scrub thoroughly but not too hard. This can help clean plaque and bacteria from the teeth and gums.

-Bring your child into our office: It’s best to bring your baby into our office for their first checkup six months after their first tooth erupts or around their first birthday. This appointment can allow our team to make sure your baby’s smile is in tip-top shape, and it can give us the opportunity to teach you all about oral hygiene.
